Wanting to address the lack of diversity in the modeling world, Liberian model Deddeh Howard made a powerful fashion series titled Black Mirror recreating iconic images from various campaigns inserting herself as the model. Deddeh says she loves all of these brands, but that she can’t help but notice their lack of diversity. What makes this series so impactful is that it allows little black and brown girls everywhere to understand that they too have the ability to be seen and heard not just in the modeling industry, but in all facets of life. Deddeh Howard is the definition of a role model in 2017. View images from the series below.

She is truly beautiful and looks like the perfect fit for every campaign photo. Hopefully brands will see this and take note!

    • Glad you enjoyed the post Sarah!

  • I remember reading about this and I was so pleased that she pointed out the lack of diversity in fashion and mainstream media. It creates an issue because it is as if we are telling our children that being of color or something other than white is not ok when in reality it should be celebrated. Beauty should not be a label.

    • Ana, I couldn’t agree more!

  • LaaLaa

Wow go on Deddeh, she looks fierce. Unfortunately the lack of diversity within fashion and beauty is an on going problem that has to always be challenged.

    • I totally agree- it seems like a never-ending battle.
