3 Reasons to Visit Montreal in 2020

Montreal is a city in the Quebec province on the east side of Canada. If you’re looking for a colonial getaway with French influence that incorporates history, great food, and exciting activities, Montreal is the place for you.

If you need more reasons to visit this quaint Canadian city, we’ll go over exactly why you should visit in 2020.

Explore with a compact automobile to get you across town to Montreal’s many attractions, recommend those at: https://www.globecar.com/en/ .

1. Poutine

Montreal is filled with delicious restaurants and foods, but you can’t visit without indulging in poutine, their most famous dish. It’s a plate of crispy fries with cheese curbs that start to melt with hot brown gravy poured on top.

The story goes that it was invented in 1957 in Warwick, Quebec, a small dairy farming town. A regular customer asked Fernand Lachance, a restaurant owner, to put some cheese curds on French fries. These items were available at his shop but never put together.

Soon, people were rushing to his restaurant for the new creation. When a reporter asked what the dish’s name was, Lachance replied, “poutine,” which is slang in Quebec for “mess.” Since then, most of the province, including Montreal, has made it a delicacy, and it’s still just as messy to eat today.

Some of the best places to try this traditional dish in Montreal are Blackstrap BBQ, Pierrette Patates, Paul Patates, and Greenspot.

2. Nightlife

Many cities around the world are known for their nightlife, and Montreal is no different. Whether you enjoy listening to live music at a small pub or dancing all night under the lights, you’ll find something you enjoy.

For the mellower crowd, Ausgang Plaza is a non-profit organization that helps to promote local culture. It invites musicians, film screenings, art installations, and clothing line launches. If you want a unique laid back experience while in Montreal, support the locals by visiting one night.

For something more lively, Montreal is home to the Stereo After Hours club. It was established in 1998 and is located in the heart of the city. The primary purpose of this club is for the party animals who want to dance all night long. It doesn’t open until 2 am and stays open until 10 am the next day.

3. Museums

Montreal is home to some of the more unique museums in the world. From fine arts to science and ancient history, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.

Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal has a vast collection of native Canadian art as well as from around the world. A signature exhibit on display in 2020 is “Paris in the Days of Post-Impressionism,” which is a group of colorful paintings done by some of the most famous artists, including Monet, Seurat, Gauguin, and Degas.

If you want to take a trip to several climates in one trip, you must visit the Montréal Biodôme. There are five diverse ecosystems of the Americas under one roof.

You’ll walk through a tropical forest that’s hot and humid, like the Amazon rainforest, with exotic species all around. A few feet away, you’ll journey through the Sub-Antarctic with penguins and a significant chill in the air.

When dinosaurs and Ancient Egyptian mummies are more of your thing, visit the Redpath Museum. This museum focuses on zoology, mineralogy, paleontology, and world cultures. You’ll leave the exhibits with a new appreciation of history.

The Bottom Line

We’ve only covered the essential reasons to go to Montreal this year, but the city has so much to offer. We’re sure you won’t regret exploring this colonial French-influenced city while in Canada.

When you get there, you have to try poutine, spend some time enjoying the nightlife, and learn something new from the many impressive museums.
