3 Reason You’ll Fall in Love with Bucharest

Before heading to Augusta, I recently had a chance to spend some time in Bucharest and I’ve got to say- this city is highly underrated! Bucharest is full of culture, friendly locals and good times. Next time you’re in Europe, you’ve got to add Bucharest to your list. Still not convinced? Here are 3 reasons you’ll fall in love once you’re there:

Bucharest-theurbanrealist1. Reason #1- Bucharest is an architect lover’s paradise.

Bucharest is the capital of Romania and was once known as “The Little Paris of the East” between the first and second World Wars. With Communism taking over in 1947 and not ending until 1989, Bucharest has this crazy mix of Communist-Era block buildings, Bauhaus facades, and neoclassical estates and government offices that are sure to catch any architecture aficionado’s attention. I stumbled across this church (pictured above) while on my way to doing laundry. Be sure to visit the Palace of Parliament– it’s absolutely gorgeous and it’s the largest building in Europe (it’s 4 million square feet and has over 1,000 rooms). The Palace is also home to The National Museum of Contemporary Art. Also check out the Museum of the National Bank of Romania– it’s stunning!

2.  Reason #2- Bucharest is Full of History and Art.

I mentioned the National Museum of Contemporary Art earlier, but that’s just one of several art meccas in Bucharest. The National Art Museum of Romania is located in the Royal Palace and Revolution Square and it’s one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever laid my eyes on. The Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History should also be added to your list- the Black Sea Diorama is pretty cool.

3. Reason #3: The Coffee Shop Scene in Bucharest is Amazing.

Whenever I travel, I hunt for great coffee as soon as I leave the airport. Bucharest did not disappoint when it came to delicious coffee. My favorite place to grab a cup (or 3) of coffee was this shop about a half a mile from my hotel called Two Minutes Coffee Shop. The coffee shop is tiny- about 100 sq. feet, but you’ll be amazed by how spacious it feels once you’re inside! The shop has a clean minimalistic vibe. Vlad the barista is super friendly and the shop has such incredible coffee!

These are just 3 reasons to visit Bucharest, but there’s honestly at least 100 more reasons you need to add it to your travel bucket list. Check out more photos from my trip to Bucharest below!
