4 Things To Consider Before Hiring A Personal Assistant

When you have a lot going on, there’s only so much you can handle. This goes for aspects of your personal life as well as your professional life. You’re only one person, and you can’t do absolutely everything. Of course, if you’re a business owner or someone in a high-up position of a company, then you’ll have one or two people working under you.

But what about tedious and menial jobs that need doing? Typical employees aren’t brought in to do those kinds of things, usually. They’re typically specialists in a certain field. Well, that’s where a personal assistant, or PA, would come in handy. Whether you’re swamped at home, or you’re looking to grow your business, and you need someone to handle particular tasks that would take up too much time, a PA would remove some of the burdens.

If you think this might be a good call, then you should probably consider bringing someone in. It is quite a big deal though, of course – it’s not exactly the same as getting your buddy to lend a hand with a few things. Naturally, you should probably weigh up a few pros and cons before making any big decisions. Here are a few things you might want to think about:

1. Is An Assistant Super Necessary Right Now?

Your first job is to literally sit down and think whether this kind of commitment is the right thing to do at this stage. This entire post is about bringing someone in, but you don’t want to act on impulse and regret doing something silly. If things are piling up horribly and you absolutely need someone to lighten the load, then that’s when the call should be made – not if you’re just feeling a little lazy.

2. What Kind Of Person Do You Want Beside You?

Once your decision has been made, you’re going to need to figure out who you want underneath you. There are many different personalities in this world, and many different working styles, so work out who you want. You’re going to be around them for a while, so you won’t want to pick the wrong person – chemistry matters.

3. The Financial Side Of Things

Well, are you going to be able to afford their services? That, of course, matters a bunch, doesn’t it? Not only do you need to figure out if they will be feasible, but you’ll also have to look at the formalities regarding taxation, among other rules and laws. If they’re exclusively employed within your home, then you might have to look at places that deal with nanny tax services, for example.

4. Are You Comfortable Interviewing Someone For This Role?

You’re going to be the boss and, thus, the leader. Are you able to take on this mantle? Sure, it’s not a heavy burden, but you’re still going to need to have their air of authority and leadership. Are you also comfortable in terms of sitting someone down and grilling them in an interview? Because you’re going to need to know exactly who you’re dealing with, and if you can trust them with your business.
