Once you have children, the days of having an acceptably cool car are long gone. You can kiss goodbye to the sporty little two-seater numbers and say hello to vehicles that carry children and all the accessories that seem to accompany them to school, childcare, and the thousands of sports and music clubs that they all seem to go to. You are no longer going out for fun road trips; now, you are going to be dad’s taxi, taking the kids around wherever and whenever they need
Does that mean you have to lose all modicum of cool though? No, definitely not! Here, we look at the few things you can do to your car to make it just a little more fun and get a little bit of your street cred back. Read on, man!
1. Tinted windows: Unfortunately, you can’t wholly pimp your car out and have the front windows tinted because, in many areas, it is illegal because it reduces visibility at night, but it is okay in most places to have the back windows tinted. In fact, when you have children in the back seats, you may well find it a blessing in disguise. It will keep the suns glare from getting into your car and keep the back feeling a lot cooler. Okay, this is going to keep the back of the car cooler and clear from the sun’s glare.
2. Rims: Even the dullest and most ‘dad’ of cars can look a million times better with a set of sparkling new rims and are a reasonably inexpensive and safe way of jazzing up your car. There are lots to choose from, including chrome and matte styles. All you need to know is the size that you need and the level of coolness that you want!
3. Seat covers: Kids are notorious for making a mess. From crumbs to juice spills, toilet accidents to travel sickness, you can guarantee that your car seats will not stay pristine for very long. The problem is that seats are also very difficult to clean – it is not like you can take them off and pop them in the washing machine! That is where car seat covers can be useful. Not only do they keep your seats clean and protected and can be easily washed, but they can give a whole new lease of life to the interior of your car.
4. Stereo system: Who doesn’t like a good old sing-along or an impromptu spot of car karaoke? Okay, so you might have to swap the Dr Dre album for the latest Disney hits one, but even the Frozen soundtrack needs a quality sound system. Try adding an amp to really get the most out of your music and be the cool dad rocking up at the school.
Just because you are a dad does not mean you have to drive a boring car. These accessories will pimp up even the dullest of vehicles and make you fall in love with driving, even if it is to ballet lessons, all over again.
