Since hosting my #MartellsModernWoman cocktail class this past summer, I’ve been thinking a lot about friendships. In particularly, friendships between females. As a teenager, I always had more guy friends than girlfriends, but now that I’m older I really appreciate the friendships I have with my lady friends. There are certain things my guy friends just can’t relate to as men. Over the years I’ve had certain types of girlfriends who’ve helped me through some of the darkest times in my life. Most of them have characteristics of all of the five types I’ve listed, as I’m sure you’ll be able to say about some of your girlfriends as well. Below I’ve listed the 5 Types of Girlfriends Every Woman Needs:

1.The Partner In Crime- You know her and love her, she’s your go-to-gal for everything. That road trip you have to take from one end of the coast to the other? She’s the first person you call. You don’t even ask her, you just tell her when because you know she’s always down! The one person who completes your sentences for you, who can tell you what guy in the room you have your eye on even before you have a chance to look! She’s your BFF, your sister from another mother, and your P.I.C., your partner in crime. I’ve been blessed to have quite a few P.I.C.’s in my life and I honestly don’t know what life would be like without them!

2.The Cheerleader- Every woman should have one friend who is her go-to source for encouragement! She’s the one you talk to when you’re unsure whether or not to apply for the position that just opened at the office, the one you call when you’re having a crappy day and need to hear something positive. She believes you are capable of anything and is constantly reminding you to keep perservering and pushing to reach your goals. She helps you when you are feeling your most insecure.

3.The Honest Abe Friend- This type of friend is super important to have. This friend is your reality check. She’s the friend that calls you on your b.s. and let’s you know the truth. She’s the friend that’ll tell you that fight you had with your boyfriend was actually your fault. She’s the perfect shopping buddy because she’ll give you the honest truth about that dress you tried on. Don’t worry, she’s never out to hurt your feelings, she just specializes in tough love.

4.The Party Girl- I almost feel like this needs no explanation. Every girl needs that one friend to help her get over a break up by taking her out for a night on the town! She’s the girl you call when you’ve just gotten reprimanded for something out of your control at work and you need to let off some steam. She truly believes a night of dancing is the cure all for most problems!

5.The Sage- The Sage is a very important part of any woman’s life. Not sure what to do in a certain situation? She’s the one you’ve got on speed dial. She’s a therapist of sorts. She helps you to see the big picture, or helps you cope with the loss of someone close to you. Relationship dilemna? She’s on it. The sage has got you covered and she keeps your best interests in mind.

Ladies, I hope you all have various forms of these women in your lives. I in turn hope you are one of these types for your own girlfriends. I’m blessed to have an array of beautiful, strong, ambition women in my life and I hope I mean to them what they mean to me. Are there any types I’ve forgotten? Tell me your experiences and what good girlfriends you have in your life.
