Do you feel as though you are spending far too much money on your bills? Then you are not alone. So many people are in the same situation that you are in right now but if you know the steps that you need to take, then you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to take advantage of huge cost savings.

1. Lower your Thermostat

Did you know that turning your thermostat down by just a few degrees can help you to take advantage of huge cost savings? You can reduce your monthly utility bills and you can also use way less energy too. If you are able to lower your thermostat by around 10 degrees every single day then you can save up to 15% a year on your bills. Sure, you might think that this seems extreme but if you do it at night and when you are out of work then you probably won’t even notice the difference.

2. Start Composting

You don’t need to have a huge amount of space in your yard in order to start your own compost pile. Compost is the result of any organic waste that is able to decompose over time. Your fruit and even your vegetable waste is very valuable fertilizer and it also reduces the amount of waste that you produce on a daily basis too.

3. Low-Flow Showerhead

Installing a low-flow showerhead can really improve the water efficiency of your home. Low-flow showerheads tend to be set at around 2.5 GPM. A traditional showerhead will use around 5GPM, so you can easily see the difference here.

4. Seal your Windows

If you can, you should try and go the extra mile by making the effort to seal any windows you have as well as trying to take care of any air leaks. If you know that your windows are letting cool air in your home, then consider adding some weather stripping. You can then add some silicone caulk around the cracks that are in the drywall and you can also add a sheet of shrink film to the windows too. When you do this, you will soon find that you can lower your energy costs more than ever before.

5. Space Heaters

Sure, electric and gas heaters will keep your feet nice and toasty, but at the end of the day they are not very energy efficient. A lot of heaters require 1500 watts of energy in order to run and they can be a very costly way to heat your home. If you want to stop this from being the case then consider investing in a thermostat, or even try and buy some blankets so that you can warm up. If you want to help yourself then why not invest in some top-rated windows and doors? When you do, you will be able to stop your home from losing out on so much heat and you can lower your energy bills too, so keep this in mind if you can.
