8 Simple Steps to Get Great Skin

If you want to get dewy and glowing looking skin, then it is important to remember that makeup will only go so far. Of course, things like bronzer and highlighter can help. But really, having a dull complexion will still come through makeup. Which is why you need to deal with the root issue for your dull skin. You may have a skin condition that dries your skin out, something like eczema perhaps, but overall, most people will put down dull skin due to dehydration. If your skin isn’t fully hydrated, then it won’t have a plump and dewy glow about it. Dehydrated skin can look stop the natural ‘glow’ that occurs when you are hydrated properly.

The good news is that there are plenty of quick and simple ways to take care of your skin, so that it takes care of it from the inside out. Applying some of these steps into your life will mean that you can literally ‘wake up like this’ and look your best. So without further ado, here are some of the ways that you can have the best looking and hydrated skin of your life. You and everyone around you will notice the difference.

Look For Water Boosting Skin Products

It might sound obvious, but many people don’t realize that not all skin products are created equal. Some skin products can be thick and creamy and leave your skin feeling smooth for a short while. But not all of them will actually help to add moisture back into your skin. And the truth is, when you need extra hydration, a thick cream isn’t going to be the things that will help you. So what you need to be looking for when you choose your beauty and skin products are ones that have a boost of water in them so that you get some adding hydration from the outside.

Not all skin care products will state ‘water’ is in them, though. So be sure to be looking out for products that contain hyaluronic acid. It might sound a bit scary as it has the word acid in it, but it is a superhero when it comes to hydration. It can hold its own weight in water a thousand times over, so it is a good ingredient to help stop water leaving your skin (especially important in cold temperatures that can easily dry out your skin more than normal). One of the best out on the market is by Neutrogena, as the reviews report that it keeps your skin hydrated all day long, and you hardly need to use any at all.

Eat The Right Foods

There are certain foods that can help to hydrate your skin more than others. So if you don’t fancy or need another glass of water, then reach for something to snack on that is rich in water. Some of the obvious choices are watermelon, hence the name, as well as celery and cucumbers. They are all high in water content. Other melons are good options too, as well as peppers, plums, lettuce, berries, and peaches. Who says that staying hydrated has to be dull? You could also add any of these to a drink of water, so you have some extra flavour, but still get all of the goodness.

Rethink Your Skin Care Regimen

If your skin really needs some tender loving care, then it can be a good idea to double up on some of your skin care treatments. Think about after you have removed your makeup, for example. If you apply a night cream or serum, how about finding the best clay mask to apply on top of the cream or serum? Because having a mask on top will form a barrier, to stop hydration leaving your skin, then it almost forces the serum or cream to hydrate your skin even more. It is a simple trick that can be pretty effective, and your skin will really thank you for it.

Use a Cleansing Brush

It can be hard to deeply penetrate and moisturize your skin if your skin is full of dirt, grime, and dead skin cells. These can block pores, and in turn, block your skin from getting hydrated as it should. Which is why getting a deeper clean, more than you just using a cleanser and a flannel, can be a really good idea. There are any cleansing brushes out on the market, but they can have a big impact on your skin, and rid it of any excess. A sonic-powered brush is a good choice if you can find one in your budget. Then you know that when you apply the moisturizer afterwards, you skin is perfectly clean for the lotion to be applied onto, and the lotion will be able to penetrate the skin as it should.

Don’t Forget To Exfoliate

A cleansing brush is one of the ways that you can exfoliate, but there are other options. So if you aren’t doing it as part of your current routine, then now is the time to do something about it. Exfoliating helps the products that you are applying to penetrate deeper, much like the above point. If you’re not doing it regularly, then you’ll be applying layers and layers of expensive product on top of skin that isn’t absorbing it to its maximum capacity. So making your own sugar scrub, much like this one from beauty YouTuber Evonna Who, can be a good way to help to keep your skin hydrated. Just make sure that you make the most of it and use a serum or lotion afterwards so that it can get as hydrated as possible.

Use a Facial Spray

It can be a good idea to invest in a facial spray as it can be a quick and easy way to hydrate your skin and leave you and your skin feeling refreshed. A face spray can also help to add to the dewy look of your face, if that is the kind of look that you are wanting to achieve. The ironic thing is that you can wipe off some of the moisture and natural oils of your skin when you are doing your skincare routine. So a facial spray will help you to add in some extra moisture to add more water. Looking for sprays that contain rose water or coconut water can be good options.

Of Course, Drink Water!

One of the obvious statements of the year is that you need to drink plenty of water. But if you think about how many glasses of water you have had so far today, I bet you’re not up on the right amount yet. At least eight glasses of water a day is recommended, which is around two liters. The best way to do it is to have a reusable bottle with you at all times, so that you can always get water if you need it. Plus, you are much more likely to remember to drink water when you see a bottle by you. So grab yourself a bottle, perhaps like a Chillys Bottle, as it can help to keep your water cool for a long time and you’ll be good to go.

If you need a little bit of motivation to help you to drink water, then why not mix it up a little? Add a squeeze of lemon or lime to some sparkling water and you’ve got a healthy version of Sprite right there. You could add chopped fruit to a jar of water and leave it overnight so that that flavours can infuse. You could even add some chopped up veggies like cucumber with some mint, for a different twist on water. Making iced tea from a fruit tea bag can be a low calorie way to get some water in to hydrate you, as well as chomping on ice cubes if you feel like you need to munch on something. Just remember to get plenty of water, pure water, as much as you can, and your skin will look so much better for it. So long blemishes and dark circles around your eyes!

Consider an Eye Cream

The skin around your eyes in some of the thinnest and most delicate on your entire body. So it is obvious that toxins show up there and can make our skin look much duller and darker than it really is. So your eyes should have a little skincare routine of themselves. If not, you can have dark circles around your eyes, as well as fine lines and ‘crow’s feet’. So look for an eye cream that works as a hydrating gel to keep the area around your eyes smooth and hydrated. It is a delicate area so make sure that you go easy on the cream and that you don’t choose any cream with ingredients that you are allergic to.

What helps you to keep your skin hydrated and looking good? Would love to hear what you think.
