This year, Party in the Park was unlike any event I’ve ever attended. With perfect weather, sword swallowers (yes, you read that right) and awesome live performances, this festival will go down as one of my personal favorites. Presented by Desperados Beer, Party in the Park kicked off with local Atlanta favorite, Stokeswood. They got the crowd warmed up and energized, just in time for Minus the Bear to take the stage. The mathy, pop rock band made us remember why we fell in love with them almost ten years ago! Next The Joy Formidable came out front and center! Ritzy was like a ball of fire on stage. There performance was pure electricity. After The Joy Formidable, my personal favorite MGMT, took the stage. There live performance lived up to all of my hopes! When “Electric Feel” came on, the crowd went insane.
MGMT was definitely my favorite act of the night. I was in heaven the moment the music to “Kids” started playing. In between each set, we’d head over to the Desperados Beer #SeizetheNight party area. What was happening in there, is what truly made this festival like no other. As soon as you walked in, it felt like you had entered a crazy circus, where everyone was having the time of their lives.
I didn’t know where to focus my attention, because so many cool things were happening at once. It was super exciting, yet intense watching the sword swallowers go to work swallowing those swords. Even when I think of it now, I still get the chills. Between that, the man on stilts and the models being body painted, it’s clear that Desperados sure knows how to have a good time.
Last, but not least, GirlTalk finally took the stage. Everyone was anxious to finally see the headliner perform and he did not disappoint. His music, with the cityscape and the lights were the perfect way to end the night! I’m excited to see what Party in the Park will be like next year, because this year’s will be hard to beat!
