Can you believe Memorial Day weekend is here? Where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday, I was bundled from head to toe running outside with Humphrey in 30 degree freezing rain. I’m a huge fan of warm weather. Give me 90 degrees with 100% humidity over snow everyday of the week.
While I love spending time out in the sun, warm weather is my yearly reminder to focus on taking better care of my skin. I can get incredibly lazy when it comes to my skincare regimen in the winter, but in the summer, I don’t play any games!
If you’re looking to take better care of your skin this summer as well, read below to find out how I keep my skin healthy during the summer heat!
1. I Wear Olay Sun Religiously.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- SPF is a MUST! I put on Olay Sun SPF 35+ Shine Control first thing in the a.m. and reapply it when I come back home from the gym. Unlike other SPF’s that are greasy and heavy, Olay Sun is super lightweight- it feels like I’m not wearing anything at all.
In the past, I was hesitant about wearing SPF on my face because I thought it would break me out. With Olay Sun, I never have that problem. Also, the fact is has shine control, makes me so happy!
I no longer have to deal with that oily skin feeling other products have left in the past. Can you believe it also helps prevent early signs of skin aging and of course protects against cancer? What’s not to love?
2. I Make the Gym My Second Home.
Everyone knows that working out is great for your body, but few people realize the benefits of working out for healthier skin. Working out increases healthy blood circulation which helps keep your skin vibrant.
Exercise also helps flush cellular debris out of your body, essentially cleansing you from the inside out. Also, let’s not forget it helps reduce stress- keeping those vicious anxiety pimples at bay. Exercise is the gift that keeps on giving, so I make it a priority to get into the gym a few days a week during the summer.
It’s been hard to get back into the routine of going, but making it a priority has made a world of difference.
3. Ciao, Pizza! Hello, Salmon!
It’s no secret that I struggle with eating poorly during the fall and winter. I never want to leave my house, so instead of getting groceries, I’m constantly ordering food from Uber Eats and Postmates. That all changes as soon as the weather gets warm! While I do still occasionally order out, I try to eat at home as much as possible.
I focus on cooking at least two meals for myself a day. Each meal has either fruits or veggies (sometimes both). I also focus on eating foods that have omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, flaxseeds etc.). Omega-3’s help reduce the signs of skin aging and they hydrate your skin.
