Kiesza is a woman of many talents — ex-Naval Communicator, Miss Universe Canada pageant contestant, and gifted dancer are just some of the highlights that pepper her resume. But then there’s her present role; Deep House Pop Diva.

IMG_7678“Hideaway,” one of the biggest dance hits of 2014, brought the Canadian songstress instant international success. Her throwback 90’s dance sound took over Atlanta’s Center Stage this week as the inaugural performance of her North American “Sound of a Woman” tour.

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 presetThe young, and surprisingly lively crowd, was ready and waiting when Kiesza burst onto the stage alongside her talented dance crew. Choreographed routines featured prominently throughout the show, which was impressive considering their manic energy and the fact that Kiesza was simultaneously singing. Actually, scratch that. Kiesza was belting out her vocals. She is incredibly talented; her voice is crisp and clear, and demands that you sing along.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetSeeing as this was the first night of the tour, I expected there would be some show elements to work out, but it all went off without a hitch. Kiesza moved smoothly from her upbeat 90’s homage tracks like “Giant in My Heart” to down-tempo moments like her emotionally charged solo performance of “Cut Me Loose.”

Processed with VSCOcam with x1 presetThe crowd was entranced and Kiesza fed off their energy. She was giddy, for lack of a better word, even dropping to the floor and doing the worm at one point. Her energy was boundless. By the time she performed her Skrillex/Diplo collaboration of “Take Ü There,” and lastly, her huge hit “Hideaway,” I was exhausted just watching her.

For a fun trip back to the 90’s, checkout Kiesza’s North American tour with Betty Who.
