On April 14th Tyler Haney visited SCAD Atlanta for the annual SCADStyle to talk about her brand Outdoor Voices. Another style elite, Instyle Fashion News Editor, Eric Wilson, interviewed the young designer. The two discussed Haney’s beginnings and spoke wisdom to all the aspiring designers in the audience.
Outdoor Voices is a recreational-luxury active wear brand aimed to change the way the world views workout and style by breaking the misconception that active wear is disposable.
The young designer built Outdoor Voices on positivity and personal experiences, one of the mantras she integrates into the brand is, TYB baby, an acronym she uses to reference the countless times her mother reminded her to, “Try your best baby.” Her clear vision and purpose has contributed to her success, but alongside purpose she emphasized to aspiring designers that quality product is extremely important. As a result of the exceptional product and getting people to put it on and talk about it, she has spent almost nothing on marketing. Her aesthetic embodies fine materials and grey color palettes, straying away from the traditional black and neon hues we see in everyday fitness clothing.
The event was a reminder that age and experience should never be a factor in pursuing your personal endeavors. Tyler Haney was fresh out of Parsons when she started Outdoor Voices, and the company is still growing. Her followers will continue to be inspired by her movement and look forward to her collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama’s, Let’s Move on May 10th.
