ON REPEAT: 12th Planet & Protohype’s “Transitions”EP
Written By: Julian Gonzalez
L.A. dubstep producer 12th Planet teams up with L.A. up-and-comer Protohype for Transitions, a new collaborative EP available now through Smog Records. The duo are creating what they like to call transition music, a genre-breaking set of tracks that will revolutionize bass music.
While this type of music has been around for a while, it has never been made up of original work. That is where the EP Transitions comes into play. With house, drum‘n’bass, drumstep, dubstep, hip-hop, and trap influences, Transitions goes in harder than Miley Cyrus at the 2013 VMA’s. A sure club and rave hit this season, Transitions features diverse styles and tempos, mixing galactic basslines, astronomical snares and out-of-this world synths, and is 100% completely original. According to 12th Planet:
“A transition record is a record that goes from one beat per minute to another beat per minute, so every song changes genres, it starts in one genre and ends in a different genre but it’s the same song.”
The evolution of EDM is upon us and I am ready for Scotty to Beam Me Up!
There is a little something for everyone to appreciate on the EP. You will be moving, shaking, fist pumping and head banging once you are finished listening to this 4-Track EP!
