With a sound that channels early 2000s R&B, Atlanta native Marissa Jones is poised for musical success following the release of her debut single “Rules” ft. K Camp earlier today.

“It’s made for the ladies to let guys know that they need to come correct,” says the singer. We sat down with Marissa briefly to chat about her latest release and what’s next. Check out the single and our exclusive interview below.

TUR:  Your new single is called “Rules.” What exactly is it about?

M: It’s about setting guide lines when it comes to finding a relationship with a guy, or even just talking to a guy.

TUR: There’s a very strong feminine perspective. What do you hope that people will take away from your music?

M: I want to inspire people and help relate to everyday problems that us women face.

TUR: For the single, you decided to collaborate with fellow Atlanta artist K Camp as well. How did that come about?

M: Me and [K Camp] have grown close as friends, and when he heard rules he automatically said he had something for it, so I was excited because I knew he’d come up with something dope.

TUR: And as for the future, what’s next for Marissa?

M: The Slumlords Mixtape is dropping [today] and I’m currently working on songs for my first EP. This is just the beginning because we have even more music coming.
