Job interview thank you notes are something that can put you ahead of your competitors in the search for a new position. They are not new but they are not currently well-known and many people do not take advantage of the opportunity they bring.
During the job interview process, it is important for you to keep track of everyone involved in your job interview. All of these people are candidates for job interview thank you notes. The information you will need for all of them is their complete name, their position with the company and of course the company mailing address.
Once your interview is completed, the process requires that you prepare a hand-written thank you note for each individual that assisted with your job interview. It is important for the notes to be hand-written and not emailed; that’s one of the things that will make them special in this day and age of doing most things online.
The other important feature of hand-written job interview thank you notes is that they are mailed and delivered through the US mail service. This says that you cared enough to invest in writing the note by hand and have it delivered by mail because the position and the people involved in your interview process are special to you. It shows that you are willing to take time out of your busy schedule to recognize people and show your appreciation for their assistance on your behalf. This action will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd.
If we assume that all other factors are constant and you are equally or better qualified for the position as the rest of your competition, how do you think it will look for you if you invest the time, energy and expense in hand-written thank you notes that you mailed if your competitors don’t bother to do it? Yes- it will help to move you ahead of the other applicants.
You will appear to be thoughtful, considerate, caring and willing to go the extra mile. Do you think the company or employer would be interested in having someone on their team that is willing to go the extra mile? How about someone that thinks about the concerns and feelings of their customers? Wouldn’t that be a big plus for them? I think so. It would also tell them how important the position is to you that you would take these extra steps to help you secure it.
People who would qualify for a job interview thank you note would be:
the person you spoke with on the phone to schedule your interview
- The person you spoke with on the phone to schedule your interview
- All persons involved in the interview itself
- any persons who may have performed a special function for you (like making copies of your resume or cover letter or other tasks to help make your interview go smoothly)
Your thank you notes should be simple but direct. They should say thank you and name the specific things or actions that you are thanking them for. You can also include a statement of appreciation for their thoughtfulness or assistance on your behalf.
Last but not least, it is important for your thank you notes to be mailed within 24 hours of your interview. This will help to keep your name fresh in their minds along with your interview, skills and talents as well as the kind of asset you can be to their company.
