6 Ways to Update Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is, without a doubt, the most intimate out of every room in your home. Even though it is a place that many of your visitors may never see, it still deserves a bit of love and attention. It is where you relax, look back on what has happened that day, and maybe even spend time reading a novel or watching a movie.

Imagine the comfort that could come with a bedroom that is beautifully organized and decorated. If your bedroom is not quite the relaxing haven that you would like it to be, or you just fancy a change, here are some low-cost tips for a bedroom refresh.

1. Color it up.

Colors will immediately change the mood of the room. Build a stylish and dramatic bedroom with dark colors, perhaps with midnight blues and deep greys, or dark greens to give it an earthy vibe. Gold accents and mirrored furniture offer a decadent finishing touch. If you have a more minimalist style, opt for light colors and whites.

2. Let there be light.

Lighting is an essential part of any room. Make your bedtime reading even easier by fitting a smart light bulb. You can also use dimmer switches or side lamps to add a touch of ambiance to the room. Candles always look great in a bedroom but are not advised because of the obvious fire hazard. Instead, look at swapping real ones for ones with an LED flame to give you the same effect without risk.

3. Black it out.

While light is important in a room, so is darkness, especially if you want to follow a healthy sleep routine. The presence of darkness sends signals to the brain that it is time to wind down and get ready to go to sleep. Look at putting up curtains with a thick lining, blackout blinds or shutters to keep the light at bay and help you to get a restful night’s sleep. You can still dress the windows with some classy curtains to tie in with the rest of the room.

4. Layer it up.

Dressing your bed is big news right now, and it is all about the layers. It gives your room a luxurious and glamorous upgrade, as well as making it super cozy in the winter. Drape the bed with snuggly throws and blankets, and lots of cushions. Add a sheepskin rug or blanket for extra warmth and texture.

5. Add the artwork.

Artwork can really help the room owner’s personality to shine through, so this is where you can really let loose and go a little crazy! It should be hung at eye level and if possible, over the bed or on the wall opposite the bed, and larger-scale pieces always look better.

6. Accessorize.

This is always the fun bit. Inject your personal touch into the room with trinkets, candles, flowers, sculptures and anything else that shows a little more of who you are and make the space somewhere you can’t wait to be.
