UR PARTY: 4 Must-Have Essentials for Festival Season

Written by Melanie Sutrathada

Music festival season is finally upon us and I couldn’t be more excited! A time for amazing music, bonding with your best friends over $8 nachos and dancing for hours? There are few things that I like more (well, maybe not the outrageously expensive nacho part). Whether you’re heading to SXSW, Coachella or Bonnaroo this year, you’ve gotta be prepared. Here are my essentials when it comes to dressing up for festival season.

1. Comfortable Shoes
While you want to be cute, you also want to be comfortable. Your favorite pair of combat boots or TOMS are great options. This is not the time to wear five-inch wedges or your designer heels. You will definitely regret that decision when you’ve been on your feet for eight hours and someone screams expletives at you for stabbing them in the foot with your stiletto. Don’t be that person.
2. Sunglasses
Hearing one of your favorite bands is exciting, and so is being able to see them. Shade is pretty rare at music festivals since most are held outdoors in big, open spaces. Come prepared with a fun pair of sunglasses so you’re not squinting in to the sun and complaining about how you “can’t see anything”. Ray Banz are always a great choice, as are anything covered in flowers or studs.
3. Layers
Whether it’s a light cardigan or a fun camouflage jacket, it’s important to have something to cover up with. I love wearing high-waisted shorts and a loose-fitting patterned top with a tribal cardigan or a comfy bright dress with fun details and a military-style jacket over it. The layers will really come in handy as the temperatures drop. They also double as something to sit on in case you get tired and the grass makes your legs itchy.
4. A Backpack
This will hold your hand sanitizer, water bottle, sunscreen and all the awesome goodies you pick up along the way. Don’t forget to pack extra cash, lip balm, baby wipes etc. Trust me, a backpack is much better than having a purse and will take a lot of strain off your shoulders. Being hands-free also means you’ll be able to dance to your heart’s content and snap pictures of your favorite bands and musicians easier.
